Five wins from six for Mullins this week

Fri 15th Jul 2011, 21:23

Despite being friendless in the market, drifting from his morning price of 11/8 out to 5/2 at the off, Capisci ran out an easy thirteen length winner of the Mullingar Flat Race, the last on the card this evening at Kilbeggan.

Trained by Willie Mullins, the son of Tikkanen had just one run to his name before today, that coming at Gowran in February of this year.

He finished a well beaten sixth on that occasion when sent off the well supported 11/10 favourite. However he didn't seem to handle the soft to heavy ground there.

In the colours of Eamonn Duignan, the 6yo made all under Katie Walsh today, traveling best from before the straight and soon drawing clear of the field. Sids Choice was best of the rest for trainer Ger Lynch at 9/2, while Kilbixy was a further four and a half lengths back in third at 3/1.

Capisci, which means understand in Italian, was the third winner of the week for Walsh, while it was Mullins' fifth from his six runners.

Afterwards Willie Mullins said via the phone: "That was probably not the strongest bumper ever but it was a great improvement from the last day.

"The ground was the key as he was much better suited to that surface.

"He will go hurdling but we might look at a winners bumper for him next.

"He has the size and scope to go chasing eventually and I was very pleased with the way he stayed on and he might be a three mile chaser in time."
