Flemenstar a commentator's dream

Sun 27th Nov 2011, 16:10

“He’s going to win this by a country mile,” commentator Dessie Scahill said about Flemenstar in the beginners chase at Navan and never a truer word was spoken.

Peter Casey’s six-year-old gelding put in a tremendous front-running performance and never came off the bridle in winning by 19 lengths under Andrew Lynch to cheer favourite backers who took the 5/4.

Arthur Moore’s High Desert (16/1) garnered second place prize money while Flemenstar’s main market rival, Nearest The Pin (7/4), was third a further 23 lengths in arrears.

Peter Casey has ambitions for his young chaser. He said: “We’ll have to move him up now and we’ll look at the Grade 1 chase at Leopardstown over Christmas.

“I think he’s a good horse and I’ve always liked him. He has still a bit to learn with the jumping.”
