Sounds Of Spring (13/2) was travelling well behind the leaders waiting for a gap approaching the final furlong of the Newgrange Handicap.
An opening materialised for Niall McCullagh 150 yards out and his mount shot through between Dragons Call and Texas Rock before running on well to score by three quarters of a length from Tide Of Time (7/2 jt fav).
The Dark Angel gelding had won and been second in two previous visits to Navan
Winning trainer Ken Condon said: “He won his maiden here at a similar time last year. He likes soft ground so we pulled up with him in June and waited for this time of the year.
“Hopefully we can get him out at least once more before the season ends. Niall (McCullagh) remarked there that he is a horse with a little bit of ability.
“It just got a bit tight there and when he did get motoring it was great to see him finish out so well. It's maybe horses for courses as he did win his maiden here.
“He did run well in the spring a few times but it's always competitive here in Ireland, he's just had to wait his turn and he got it today which is great.
“We'll try and find something similar in the next few weeks and he'll stay in training next year as well.”
