Inxile spearheads Nicholls treble

Sat 18th Apr 2009, 16:39

Dandy Nicholls launched another successful raiding party when Inxile proved the star in a fantastic treble for the yard at Naas today.

The Fayruz gelding was too strong for his field in the Listed Woodlands Stakes.

Adrian Nicholls always had his mount prominent on the rail and despite drifting right at the furlong pole he had too much up his sleeve, recording a half-a-length success over fellow raider Reverence in the sprint.

When asked if he had expected the success Nicholls joked: "We don't come over here for the daffodils!"

"He's a hard horse to place because of his rating and we took him to France and over here to Ireland last year. He'll do the same again.

"He's tough like Tax Free but still very green as he hasn't a lot of experience racing.

"He's a hard horse to ride as you can't hold him but he's a horse we've always thought a lot of and I think he has a big future."

The Nicholls team wasted no time doubling up as Fol Hollow struck in the 5f handicap.

The 9/4f tracked the leaders before coming with a determined run to lead close home.

The winner was turning out again quickly having scored at Beverley on Wednesday.

"He's fit and well and my theory has always been to run them.

"He was a decent two-year-old but the handicapper killed him last year.

"He probably would get six furlongs and he goes on any ground.

"When you have Osterhase in a race there is no point going head to head and Adrian is riding really well."

The day was wrapped up in fine style when Joseph Henry ran out a cosy winner of the seven furlong handicap.

The Mujdail geldinng tracked the leader before kicking on two furlongs out for a five length success.

"He's just been very unlucky," said Nicholls afterwards.

"I've had him nearly two years and his owner Billy Hughes has been very patient.

"He's had every door shut in his face but in saying that it's meant he's well handicapped."
