Lynam strikes with Word

Sun 5th Sep 2010, 17:12

Eddie Lynam claimed the mile-and-a-half handicap at Dundalk but not with the well-fancied Denny Crane

Stable-mate Word For Word proved successful under Pat Smullen, hitting the front a furlong-and-a-half from home and repelling the late challenge of Try Freedom by a neck.

11/4 favourite Denny Crane was a length back in third.

"I had to be patient with him as I bought him as a yearling," said Lynam of the winner.

"I had an unusual request for the handicapper last week. I asked him to put him up 2lb so he wouldn't drop out of the system!"

"I wasn't going to run as I thought Denny Crane was a certainty. Denny was maybe a bit unlucky but this fellow won fair and square.

"It's a few weeks since we had a winner so I'm glad to get one. It gets me off the cold list."
