Mr Red Clubs puts Murtagh back three in front

Fri 4th Nov 2011, 19:39

Mr Red Clubs came home strongly to land the Follow Dundalk On Facebook Claiming Race, providing his jockey Johnny Murtagh with his eighty winner of the season, putting him three ahead of Pat Smullen in the race for the Flat Jockeys Championship.

Trained by Paul Flynn, the son of Red Clubs was sent off the clear favourite at 2/1 having run well on his last two starts at Leopardstown and over the course last month.

13/2 chance Catfromtherock for David Marnane and Colm O'Donoghue looked set for victory a furlong from home with the eventually winner making little impression under pressure.

However he found an extra gear and ran on strongly to just get up near the line winning by a neck. Perla Du Ma for double seeking Ger Lyons and Keagan Latham finished a further length and three parts back in third at the odds of 12/1.

Winning trainer Paul Flynn said afterwards: "He might run again on Sunday but then again he might be claimed in ten minutes!

"He will win a few more races and could even sneak a Nursery. Johnny (Murtagh) fancied him tonight."

None of the runners were claimed after the race.
