Perfect Leader was left with a decisive advantage from the last to take the Wexford Handicap Chase for the mother and son team of Mag and Danny Mullins.

The 3/1 favourite put his stamp on this two miler from the penultimate fence but Commandant was still chasing with a squeak when blundering badly and unseating Hugh Morgan at the last.

That left Perfect Leader to make it two from thirty one lifetime, by five lengths from My Manekineko Hard Bought (16s into 9s) ended up six lengths back in third.

"He is definitely a better chaser, he has a lot of scope over a fence," reflected the winning rider in the aftermath.

"Patrick (Hogan) is a great owner, he leaves it up to me.

"The day I won on him in Leopardstown it wasn't the plan to make it, it was just the way the race worked out.

"Today we wanted to be closer and it didn't work out either. For a good owner like that you can ride with confidence and it worked out nicely. It's nice to repay him."

Hogan is from Templemore in Co Tipperary.
