Murphy scores with Kimberlite King
Co Wexford trainer Colm Murphy saddled the heavily-backed 9/4 favourite (from 4's) Kimberlite King to win The 2009 Navan Membership Maiden Hurdle under Matthew O'Connor in the colours of the Aspirations Syndicate.
O'Connor raced the Good Thyne gelding in behind the leaders, took closer order halfway, improved to lead before 3 out, clear before last and kept on well to hold off stable companion Fier Diestrar ridden by Alan Crowe by 4 ? lengths.
Murphy said afterwards, "We can't get the ground soft enough for this lad. We will probably look for a winner's of one for him next. When he brushes up his jumping he'll make a very nice horse."
