O'Callaghan off mark as Suzie suprises

Thu 13th Jan 2011, 16:24

Dazzling Suzie sprang a 25/1 shock in the concluding bumper at Thurles giving Carrick-on-Suir trainer John O'Callaghan his first success.

The daughter of Stowaway was produced with a well-timed challenge by Barry Foley to lead inside the final furlong and record a neck success over Ask Me Sister

O'Callaghan previously had a licence some years ago between 1990 and 1997 before giving it up.

He was recording his first success as a trainer but had tasted victory as an owner with the Michael Butler-trained Heron Marsh.

"We ran this filly as a four-year when we shouldn't have as she was big and backward," said O'Callaghan afterwards.

"That was her first run back and she was spot on for the job. We'll look for a winners' bumper now."
