O'Connell excels on Kilflora

Sat 2nd Jan 2010, 15:20

Brian O'Connell, better known as Dunguib's jockey, excelled on the Philip Fenton trained Kilflora when winning the McCarthy Insurance Group Maiden Hurdle at Cork today, on the enigmatic Kilflora.

Kilflora, rated 111 over hurdles, had gained a reputation as a 'bridle horse' but O'Connell held the gelding up with until producing the son of Alflora to lead at the final flight before pushing him out for a two and a half lengths win.

Afterwards Fenton praised the winning ride saying “Brian has oceans of confidence and gave Kilflora a great ride. Kilflora can be a soft horse and doesn't find a lot off the bridle – he'll go for a handicap next.”
