Morning money suggested that Maggie Neary was ready to go well on her hurdling debut in the opening "Tetratema – Son Of The Tetrarch" Maiden Hurdle at Gowran and so it proved as the daughter of Hurricane Run was successful under Robbie Power. Gentleman Duke was the other big positive in the market, going off at 9/4 from a morning quote of at least 5s. However Maggie Neary (13/2 this morning into 4s) was getting the upper hand on that fellow when he got the final flight 'wrong' and it was left to original market-leader, Cause Of Causes to chase home Maggie Neary at a distance of two and a quarter lengths.

Maggie Neary was having her first start for Jessica Harrington and the Cherry Knoll Farm Partnership.

Mrs Harrington explained: "She was bought by Janet Elliott for the owners to go jumping in America. Janet is a trainer in Pennsylvania.

"They said they'd leave her here to be schooled and to have a few runs.

"She jumped brilliantly there and that is totally down to Tommy Treacy. He's done all the schooling and he's done an unbelievable job.

"It's great to have a team where everyone does their bit.

"I'm thrilled with the filly having been a bit worried about the ground. She'd won two on the all-weather (for Charlie Swan) but she handled it and it can't be too bad." (GC & EM)
