Swan's mud lovers sprout wings

Sun 9th Nov 2008, 16:19

Trainer Charlie Swan made it an across-the-card hat-trick of wins at Limerick today when his General Wellington made light of the mud to win the Glenview Stud QR Beginners Chase.

Swan was earlier successful at Navan with Hotterthanjuly and at Limerick with Drive On Jim to move the Co Tipperary trainer onto the 25 winner mark for the season.

Drive On Jim's win, under a well judged ride from Lenny Flynn, came in the South's Bar Handicap Hurdle and Swan reported "that was a bit of a surprise!"

He added "Drive On Jim had been working well but his form was poor. However, upping him in trip may have helped and we'll go for something similar next."

General Wellington's win in the amateur riders' beginners' chase came under Richie Harding and Swan briefly mentioned "General Wellington has loads of ability but can pull up when in front. This was a moderate race and we'll aim for something similar next, depending on what handicap mark he receives."
