Patrolman showed no ill-effects from Monday’s trip to Down Royal as he justified favouritism in the two and a quarter mile handicap hurdle in Downpatrick.

Andrew McNamara guided him into contention approaching the last and he kept on for a three and a quarter length success at 3/1. Shanroe Society at 9s came home second, while Shabra’s Bertolini took third at 10/1, another four and three quarter lengths away.

Patrolman was second at The Maze on Monday in a two mile handicap hurdle on good to firm ground. He encountered good ground this evening.

Trainer Shark Hanlon said: “He was unlucky on Monday. He missed the last or probably would have won. We came here without the penalty. He’ll have a break now for a couple of months and he’ll come back for Galway. He wants good ground.”

Patrolman attracted support this morning from 7/2 to 5/2, however, he was returned at 3/1 on course.
