The Joe Murphy trained The Pier rewarded plenty of morning market support when winning the Randles Hotel Killarney Handicap for trainer Joe Murphy and jockey Bill Lee.

The son of Alhaarth raced prominently throughout before moving through to lead a furlong and a half out, eventually scoring by a length and a quarter from Destined For Fame a non-runner in yesterday's Irish Oaks.

Afterwards Murphy stated "The Pier will hopefully make a lovely hurdler later in the year and will run next in a mile and a half handicap at Galway ? ground shouldn't be an issue with him."
