Top weight Sharisse scores for Farrell & Murtagh

Sun 7th Aug 2011, 17:02

Top weight Sharisse took the sixth race on the card at the Curragh this afternoon, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap for her trainer Bill Farrell with Johnny Murtagh aboard.

The daughter of Noverre chased the leaders for the early part of the race and was switched right over a furlong from home.

The well-backed 6/1 chance stayed on well to hit the front close home, just beating Core Element (7/1) by a neck with a further neck back to the third Sassaway (16/1).

The winner, having just her second run of the year, ran well last time out at Naas, finishing just over five lengths behind Katla in the Listed Sweet Mimosa Stakes.

Winning trainer Bill Farrell said: "She is as game as a pebble. She will go for a Listed race next and she should come on from that again."
