West a jewel for Meade

Fri 2nd Oct 2009, 17:40

Noel Meade got a measure of compensation for the loss of Steve Capall and Shiloh in recent days when Jewel Of The West ran out a good winner of the Stoneyford Beginners Chase under Barry Geraghty.

The 5/2 favourite led after two out and he was driven clear to see off the staying on Indian Pace by two lengths. Gamble of the event, Prince Roco (5s into 11/4) made a couple of slight mistakes and ended up in third place.

Meade said: "That makes up for the last day (beaten by a length in a close finish). He jumped and stayed well. The owner flew over to see him the last day in Kilbeggan but he was not here today. He'll go for a winners of one next. He doesn't like heavy ground."
