The Paddy Mooney trained Wooly Tom readily justified 7/4 favourism to win the Follow Limerick Racecourse On Facebook Handicap Hurdle at Limerick today, winning under a cool ride from the handler's son Martin Mooney.

Mooney held the eight year old son of Alexius up in rear for much of the two miles trip, made good headway from three out, before improving to lead before the final flight. The gelding quickened well on the run-in to score an effortless three and a half lengths win over Renoyr

Afterwards Mooney Jnr stated “Wooly Tom settled really well today but is still learning. He is quite an energetic horse and just needs to learn to switch off in his races.”

“Long-term he'll make a lovely chaser and while he'll be very good over fences at some stage, I'd hate to ruin him by running him over fences too soon.”
