Plain Or Battered That's Conor's fifth winner. He started with me just over a year ago and started with no experience. For the chances he is getting his strike rate has been extremely good. He is good value for his claim and this horse is an ideal one for him to ride as he has plenty of experience,. I got him off the Dooly's and Noel is still involved with him. The Dooly's are fabulous people and they gave me the opportunity to buy three horses and I'm really pleased to have them. They are great friends and are lovely people, so I can't say enough thanks to Noel and Jenny Dooly, they are very good to me. He is a winter horse and we have winter ground today. I believe it's summer heavy today and so did Paul Townend and a lot of the senior jockeys, yet the board inside still says soft, yielding in places. The same clerk of the course (Paul Moloney) gave good to yielding in Kilbeggan last night, whereas all the senior jockeys said good, no yielding. There is a huge discrepancies. How are they seeing it as slower than the riders last night and quicker than the riders today. The discrepancy is too big and it doesn't make sense. I'm delighted because my horse is a winter horse and he got heavy ground today. Liz Doyle told me this morning it would be proper soft and she was right. He'll probably get a break now and come back in the winter to go over fences.

Woodstream Lad He’s been a super little horse, and I just couldn’t run him on real winter ground. I thought today with the rain getting into it that it might catch him out and I don’t think he jumped as confident as he could have done. I’d say they went plenty quick in front, and he ended up further back than you would like. It worked out well and Phidelma gets on well with him and her 7lb claim. I actually bought him for her to ride as a bit of fun in handicaps and then John Leckey came on board to purchase him. His Leopardstown run at Christmas was very good and then we hoped he might sneak into the two-mile handicap at Punchestown but the entries were incredible. It’s our first winner of the season. I know it’s only three weeks but it seems like a long time. Phidelma is a hard grafter and is part of a really good team I have with many senior staff. I’m very fortunate to have them and just try to man the fort.

The Busy Fool He is big raw horse, we took our time with him and he is improving. The nicer ground has brought out improvement as well and that will sharpen him. He had been placed in three maiden hurdles at good winter tracks and hopefully he will come forward now. I'll see how he is tomorrow and we might keep him for another fortnight or let him off and forget about him until maybe Down Royal next November. He won't see a chase fence for 12 months.

Natural Breeze He has been placed so many days and he deserved that. It's his second win and he has been pretty consistent, he is a great little horse. He was down the bottom of the handicap and we took seven off with Conor's claim. It's great for Conor, that's his third winner and he is improving away. He probably wants another year of experience under his belt to really get going. He is definitely on the up. That's 41 winners now and it's my best season to date. It was lovely to hit the 40 winners mark the other day. I've been fifth in the trainers table nearly all year and while behind me is something like 18, I'm still miles behind the first four. For a yard of 50 odd horses at the level we are at, it's magic. I've got massive support from owners and I have wonderful staff. Long may it last.
