Pipe plans Galway raid

David Pipe is looking forward to heading to Galway next week with Qulinton and Matuhi both in line for a tilt at the www.thetote.com Galway Plate.

Qulinton ran away with the Summer Plate at Market Rasen on Sunday and will be a leading contender for the valuable feature event.

Matuhi has not been seen since scoring at Haydock in April, but Pipe has been pleased with his preparation.

"He (Qulinton) had blinkers on for the first time and travelled very well and he looked the winner from a long way out," Pipe told At The Races.

"Unfortunately he has gone up 13lb for that win, so that obviously makes it a lot tougher, but he's in good form and the plan is to go to Ireland.

"Matuhi has had a bit of a break and is back doing some good work now.

"He won nicely at Haydock last time and he's a horse that jumps and travels well. He's one that we've had in mind for the Galway Plate for a long time.

"Both horses will go on most types of ground and are in good order." Pipe could also be represented in the Guinness Galway Hurdle, with Saturday's Summer Hurdle third Street Entertainer a possible runner.

"He went over and won at Punchestown and that was our first Irish winner," Pipe added.

"We haven't decided whether he's running yet. There's a lot of prize-money on offer and a lot will depend on whether Overturn runs.

"He ran a cracking race on Saturday at Market Rasen in the Summer Hurdle and he's improving. If Overturn was to stay in, then he'd be at the right end of the weights."
