The going at Galway, where the seven-day Festival kicks off in just over an hour, has eased slightly following some showers this morning.

The going on the Flat course is now yielding (yielding to soft in places) while the hurdle course is good (good to yielding in places).

Clerk of the Course Lorcan Wyer explained, “We had some heavy showers this morning between 9am and 11am but it has been dry since.

“It’s lovely jumping ground, although it’s a little bit softer than ideal for the Flat. We stopped watering a week ago, and the Man above has taken care of watering since.

“The met office is predicting a heavy band of rain on Wednesday but either side of that is not too bad with maybe some showers.

“I would like to pay tribute to head groundsman Gerry Broderick and his team who have the place in great nick. The course has been presented in terrific shape, and hopefully we will have a great week’s racing and get everyone back safely.”
