I couldn't see Philip Fenton's horse (One Big Boum) being beaten and I thought Philip Rothwell's horse (Give Him A Chance) had a good chance too. This lad has been on the go along time and I brought him here and thought it might be the last time he'll ever run over a hurdle. He's 12 and it's coming towards the end of the season and I'm not going to run him on very fast ground. I thought he might enjoy today, with a bit of an ease in the ground. The veterans race is on here in about a months time and he could come back for that. He is nearly better over fences than he is over hurdles. We'll see how things are at the time. Sarah is in with us three days a week. She is very obliging and if we are stuck, she'll come in. Thank God we've got a winner for her anyway.

When I heard the three fences were left out I was concerned because jumping is his forte. There wasn't much jumping!. It was a long run home and I said he will definitely get idle. He could have wilted when I saw Keith (Donoghue on Bythesametoken) coming on his outside. He has a good mark over hurdles and we will see what the handicapper does. I've run him quite a few times over hurdles and he runs well, but he is a horse that doesn't see out his races. I'd be tempted to go back over hurdles as he will get a few pounds for that. He has a few pounds to spare (over hurdles), you'd hope anyway.

He was unlucky last time as he jumped into the backend of another horse and the jockey was catapulted out of the saddle,&rdquo. I actually fancied him more that day than I did today, I thought he was in better shape going there than today. This race fell his way and I thought we'd have a go at it. Keith went very wide all the way around to try and get the best of the ground, it's not always ideal but the ground is fair tacky and it's tough going. He's fit and well and he's in long enough. He'll go on a bit better ground and we could even run him on summer soft. We could still go back for a hurdle with him as well, we'll see what comes up.
