Twelve year old Rebel Gold (7/2f) rolled back the years with a sixth career success today, defying a rating of 139 to land Wexford’s Ambrex Switchgear Veterans Handicap Chase.

Ridden by 5lb claimer Alex Harvey, Rebel Gold tracked the leaders, led after the last and battled well to beat Dont Go Yet by 1.25 lengths.

Former Dan Moore Chase winner Rebel Gold’s previous success came in the 2023 Grade 3 Newlands Chase and today Foley reported “he has been very hard to place. The handicapper hasn't relented with him because he is so consistent and he wouldn't stay a yard further than this (2m3f 100yds).

"The Newlands Chase at Naas had again been the main goal for him and the conditions and everything were spot on, but the chases were abandoned that day. We then had to go to the Shamrock Chase at Gowran, which didn't suit as he was giving away 20lb to the winner who is a seven-year-old.”

He added “we might consider the Devenish Chase for him at Fairyhouse on Irish National day, they might get a small field for it. It's only 17 days away and he had a hard race today, so we'll see how he is. We'll do very little with him now but he's not going to Punchestown to run in a two-mile handicap, where he'd have top-weight."
