Portarlington continued his rich vein of form with an easy victory in Division 2 of the two and a-half mile handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse.
Sat 14th Dec
Keith Donoghue partnered a quick 51/1 double at Tramore when teaming up with his brother Ian to take the Ladies Cove Handicap Chase with Portarlington.
Tue 26th Nov

It was good, we actually kind of bought him off one of his runs - I think he ran around here once over two miles or two miles two furlongs. He was off the bridle the whole way and looked honest. That made up our mind to ring and try and buy him, so we knew he would handle the track. Up in trip suited him well and Josh gave him a great ride, he got to dictate things and he did it snug. The handicapper just had him kind of caught. That was obviously a weak-enough race, he's honest and he tries. He's for sale. I put him to a few lads in England and they are all texting me now and I said he is still for sale. He'll be a fun horse, he can run on the Flat, he can run over hurdles and he can run over fences.

He jumped a bit high coming back from fences last time and ran lazily, but Josh knows him well and gave him a great ride. He didn’t let it turn into a sprint, and he’s won very well. He’ll continue to mix and there is a two-mile handicap at Dundalk in January, a 47-65, that he can go for.

The first day we ran him in Limerick the ground was too quick for him and Keith said he didn’t come down the hill. He told us that day that he’d win the next day and he was right. We were confident coming here today and the ground was probably the only worry with it being so heavy but he has plenty of knee action and he handled it well. It’s great for the boys (Pipe Down Syndicate). It’s only their second horse win me and that’s three winners now so it’s great.

that’s just his second run for me and Keith (Donoghue, brother) rode him the last day and loved him. He said he gallops and stays but didn’t come down the hill that day in Limerick on quick ground. He was good today and Josh gave him a great ride. He might go again at Navan on Sunday: the two-mile race might be a bit short for him but it’s a big stiff track.
