Naas Sat, 7th Feb, 2026  Coole Cafe The last day was my own fault. The first day she had ear plugs in, and I let Deccy (Lavery) ride her too close to the pace the last day and she got very lit up as I forgot to put the ear plugs in. She was rotten keen and he couldn’t get her settled at all. It was ideal there today, only five runners she could follow them around in last and she has loads of gears. It was a very good performance. She went through the line well and she’s a nice filly. Going forward she’s going to learn. Back over hurdles on nice ground, going a gallop, we’ll be fine with her. We wouldn’t rule out trying to pick up a bit of black type in a bumper. I don’t know if she qualifies for a UK Listed bumper as she won the academy hurdle. We’ll have to look into that. There is a race at Sandown on March 3rd, so we’ll explore that.

Dundalk Fri, 12th Dec, 2025  Gonna Be Golden We always liked this filly. She was named after a song my boys sing quite a bit - it is quite an upbeat song and it is a line from that. She had a nice run first time and worked well during the week, so stepped up. We think there is plenty of improvement, and she was green when she hit the front. She's having a nice blow there, but I liked her attitude. The horse came to her and she found again. Chris gave a good report, so that is always nice. She is (one for turf as well). We will put her away and we'll see for the beginning of the year - maybe start thinking of trials. She has shown us a bit at home, so we were thinking that she was well able to step up on her maiden and they did stretch five-and-a-half-lengths clear. It looks like that (she would get the mile), she hit the line strong even though she was green. The other horse came to her, and she was probably strongest at the line.

Colin said he was flat out the whole way, so really seven (furlongs) would probably suit him better - if he would relax over the seven. When you put Colin up, that's what can happen. Having said all that, we thought when we started working him first that he was the 'real deal'. We went to the Curragh one day, with Colin riding him and he had ridden him work, and we thought we had a big chance. He finished second-last. It took us a long time to figure him out, and geld him. He did run well here the last day and a little step forward again.

Navan Sat, 6th Dec, 2025  Coole Cafe It was a concern with her Flat pedigree that she might get stuck in the ground and she kind of looks like a Flat filly too, but you'd have to like the way she hit the line and she likes jumping. I suppose the Flat pedigree came into play (regarding the race’s pace), but she jumped well and it was a nice performance. Conor got her switched off, gave her a chance and she picked up really well. I don't know where next with Coole Cafe but we will enjoy the welcome winner.

She was entitled either to win or go close and Slattery’s horse (unplaced 6/4 joint-favourite Whats New) is a bit kinky and he was favourite. She likes jumping so she’ll stay jumping at the moment. she was second one day at the Curragh and the handicapper jumped her from 70 to 84, despite her being well exposed. She’s a 70 (rated-horse), not an 84, so she will have to work her way back down. She’s a fine big mare, Helen bred her and we had the dam. She stays well and will probably win a maiden on the Flat.
