Moreira Booked For Irish Runner In Melbourne

Hong Kong's Champion Jockey Joao Moreira has been snapped up by trainer Willie Mullins to partner his Melbourne Cup contender Thomas Hobson in the Flemington showpiece on November 7th.

Both the trainer and rider have gone close in the event in recent years but now join forces for the first time.

Moreira finished second in last year's Melbourne Cup when also riding an Irish trained horse, the Tony Martin trained Heartbreak City which was narrowly beaten by Almandin.

Mullins' Max Dynamite was beaten a half a length when filling the runner-up spot in the 2015 renewal behind Prince of Penzance.

Max Dynamite is also an intended runner this year but no rider has yet been booked for the seven-year-old.
