Argocat is set to tackle Grade One company for the first time when he lines up in the Growise Champion Novice Chase at Punchestown next Tuesday.
The Tom Taaffe-trained gelding has landed two Grade Two events at Limerick this season, including when stepping up to three miles at the course earlier this month.
The Fitri Hay-owned son of Montjeu had an easy time of things on his latest victory after the contest cut up because of drying ground.
He only had Shabra Charity to beat after the only other runner, Noras Fancy, fell early.
Taaffe is now looking forward to testing his charge at the highest level and feels staying trips will bring the best out of him.
“He's very well and came out of his race in Limerick in great shape. He'll go for the 3m1f,” said Taaffe today.
“We never had an issue with him getting the trip (three miles). We were of the opinion all along that he would need it but didn't want to step him up until he was a bit older."
The prospect of rain doesn't worry Taaffe as his charge has won on a fast surface and in testing conditions.
“He won in bottomless ground at Limerick over Christmas. I'd say his best ground would be nice jumping ground but he'll handle it soft.”
