Ado McGuinness had to settle for second in the feature event tonight at Galway but got on the scoresheet when Eddie G ran out a convincing winner of the caulfieldindustrial.com Handicap.
Dylan Browne McMonagle gave the 7/2 favourite a confident ride as he stalked the leaders turning for home.
He sent the Kuroshio gelding to the front inside the final furlong and soon settled matters. Go Athletico finished off well to get within three-parts-of-a-length at the line.
McGuinness, who saddled Pierre Royal to finish runner-up in the BMW Mile, said afterwards:-
"Adam (Caffrey, stable jockey) picked Goal Exceeded and when Dylan Browne McMonagle became available, I rang Padraig (Connolly, owner) to tell him and he replied 'that's like bringing on Messi as a sub!'.
"It was great but unfortunately Padraig's wife passed away only a few weeks ago so this is obviously very emotional and he isn't here.
“It is great for the family, they are a big hurling family from Galway and include Joe Connolly (famous 1980 All Ireland winning captain) and brothers.
"This means a lot to them so I'm delighted and all my horses ran well as well."
