Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes: Top tips for a fierce finish at Royal Ascot

Royal Ascot concludes on Friday and the main event on Day 5 is the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, which has a total prize fund of £1,000,000, and is set to be a fiercely competitive renewal.
Run over six furlongs, the prestigious Group 1 has been won by some very good horses over the years, including the likes of Aussie raider Black Caviar. Ryan Moore and James Doyle have won five of the last 10 renewals between them and they both ride strong chances this time around.
A field of 16 has been declared for the big race so we’ve taken a close look at the field and picked out two strong fancies to follow.

Formscan - Last year's Commonwealth Cup hero Inisherin is back for more and showed more than enough when victorious in the Clipper at York to suggest he is set for a big run. French raider Lazzat romped home in Listed company at Chantilly last time and took the Prix Maurice de Gheest with the minimum of fuss last August, so he commands huge respect. However, a chance can be taken on TOPGEAR. Christopher Head's six-year-old comfortably struck in a Group 3 at Longchamp on his return and the drop back to this distance looks a good move. He may get the race run to suit and could be the one to beat.

A wide open renewal
The market is telling us that there’s no real standout candidate for this race and there’s very little difference in price between the first four in the betting. French raider Lazzat heads the market and he arrives here off the back of a five-and-a-half-length demolition job in a Listed race at Chantilly.
This is a very different game but you can see why he’s popular, also 33/1 outsider James’s Delight was nine lengths behind him that day. Kevin Ryan’s Inisherin is also towards the head of the betting and he won the Commonwealth Cup at this meeting last year.
Japanese runner Satono Reve is a fascinating candidate, having already won a Group 1 this year, and he really could be anything. Storm Boy represents Aidan O’Brien and he’s expected to improve significantly after flopping at the Curragh on stable debut.
Another one for team France, Topgear is an excellent 7f horse but it’s hard to know what to expect over a furlong shorter here. The improving Flora Bermuda was not far behind Inisherin last time and she’s also entitled to improve for the run.
Elite Status the scope to improve into a Group 1 horse this season and Andre Fabre’s Sajir won a Group race at Newmarket two starts ago and shouldn’t be dismissed either. It’s hard to make a case for the rest of the field but Run To Freedom could outrun her odds at a massive price.
Inisherin can win at Royal Ascot again

William Buick has been booked to ride INISHERIN and there are plenty of reasons to be confident. Kevin Ryan’s four-year-old produced an excellent performance to win the Commonwealth Cup in very good style last season, so the return to Ascot is a positive.
His two runs in the July Cup and Haydock’s Sprint Cup were a little underwhelming, but connections decided to give him wind surgery over the spring, which appears to have helped.
He got back on track when winning the Group 2 Duke Of York Clipper Stakes on seasonal debut and you would imagine he’ll step forward for that. Flora Of Bermuda and Elite Status were both behind him that day and he’s fancied to confirm the form here.
It would be dangerous to overlook Elite Status
Karl Burke ’s Elite Status shouldn’t be overlooked however, as he could improve significantly as a four-year-old. He looked in need of the run when a comfortably beaten fourth in Group 2 company last time out and a much sharper performance is anticipated here.
Elite Status was a game winner of a Newbury Group 3 on good to firm ground in July but struggled in Group 1 company in two starts in slower conditions after that. Perhaps the return to fast ground will help and he deserves one more chance at this level.
