Abbey sets Bailey on his way

Sat 26th Mar 2011, 16:20

Twenty year old Colin Bailey partnered his first winner at Navan today, producing Abbey Glen to win the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle for his boss Christy Roche.

Bailey moved Abbey Glen, a debut maiden hurdle winner at Kilbeggan in August ‘08, through to lead from two out, before responding well from the final flight to hold the challenge of O’Fortuna.

Afterwards Frank Berry, racing manager to Abbey Glen’s owner J.P. McManus, stated “he was injured after winning at Kilbeggan and it took a long time to him back.”

Bailey, from Monasterevin and based with Roche, was riding in just his 18th race.
