Trainer John McConnell has his yard in flying form and his Yo Tambien caused an 18/1 surprise when landing the Munster National Tomorrow Apprentice Handicap (div 1) at Limerick today.

Apprentice jockey Andrew Slattery had earlier steered the Joe Murphy trained Insignia Of Rank to win and doubled his tally on Yo Tambien, which improved on five previous unplaced efforts to score today.

McConnell, who has trained an impressive 23 winners in the last six months, later stated “she's a nicely bred filly and I trained her brother (Group 2 placed Clonard Street). We were waiting on soft ground all year and then we thought it had gone too soft but obviously not.

“That's probably it for the year for her now as there isn't much for her on turf; she has run at Dundalk in the past but this is her ground.

“The syndicate are good supporters and they're delighted, so that's important.”
