The second split of the Yellow Furze Handicap resulted in victory for the well-supported 5/1 joint-favourite (from 14s in the morning) Wish Me

The Elzaam gelding, also well-backed when sixth at this track on his previous outing in May, chased the leaders under Mark Enright who had to wait for racing room approaching the final furlong.

Once a gap appeared, Wish Me was driven clear in the final furlong to account for Jazzelle by a length and a half.

Former jockey Barry Cash, owner and assistant to winning trainer Jennifer Lynch, said: “The ground was probably too quick for him the last time he was here and it was his first run in a handicap as well and he was clueless.

“He did nothing to help Mark (Enright) the last day but was a lot sharper today. The slower ground helped him as well and he stayed at it.

“He probably wants a little bit further but he's learning his job and it's taken him long enough to get this far!

“Hopefully he could run again next week. There are only a couple of weeks left and his holidays are over.

“That's my first winner as an owner so I'm delighted.”
