Berties Dream hoping for soft ground at Punchestown

Cheltenham Festival winner Berties Dream could take on seasoned campaigners in the ladbrokes.com World Series Hurdle at Punchestown.

Trainer Paul Gilligan has his sights set on the April 22 feature for his Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle hero, as long as the ground is soft.

"He'll definitely go to Punchestown if the ground is soft," said the County Galway handler.

"After his run in Galway in August we thought we'd take him to Cheltenham in November to see how he'd cope with the track and the travelling over - the whole lot.

"He ran very well in November so we thought we'd go back for the Albert Bartlett and we thought he'd have some sort of chance.

"He's the type of horse that doesn't do a lot early in his races.

"He came out of the race very well and, even leading him back to the stable afterwards, you wouldn't think he'd had a race."
