Cactus Tree won a dramatic Fairyhouse For Fundraisers Handicap (div I) at that Co Meath racecourse today as the Michael Grassick trained filly scored a maiden win at the 28th attempt.

The 42-rated daughter of Camelot was produced from last to first by jockey Wayne Lordan, to score a length and three parts win in the seven furlongs contest, in which 6/4 favourite Adapt To Dan met significant trouble in-running.

Thursday's Bellewstown winner Adapt To Dan had no room on the inner in the home straight, merely finding fourth-gear in the closing stages and finishing a frustrating fifth.

Castus Tree's trainer Michael Grassick later reported “she has a few little problems with her wind and I think that lets her down. I think the ground was too quick for her the last day in Naas and it’s beautiful ground here tonight. She prefers an ease in the ground.

“We thought she was a decent filly early on but we have kept her because she is such a good work horse and is handy to have around the yard. She leads all the young horses and does all the work at home.

“I’m delighted for the syndicate. They are a bunch of lads from Castleknock and a cousin of mine set it up. I leased her out and it’s their first horse with me.”
