Coolmill kept up the gallop as he ground his four rivals down from the front in the three mile novice hurdle in Cork.

After jumping the fourth last it became apparent that the winners’ spoils of 10,350 would either be taken by Coolmill or Some Officer who raced second, as the pair pulled clear of the remainder.

Kevin Sexton aboard Some Officer got busy asking him for his challenge, but the pair lost momentum with a mistake at the second last.

Coolmill and Joe Holly were relentless in front nevertheless, and had five and a half lengths in their locker over Some Officer at the winning post.

The winner’s SP was 7/4 while Some Officer was sent off the 6/4 favourite, from 3/1 this morning. Seskinane was a notable non-runner due to a stone bruise. This would also have seen Some Officer’s price contract.

Successful handler Donal O’Shea said: “He’s a good jumper and the longer distance suited him as he stays well.

“Joe rides him out sometimes at home. I’ve four for the track at the moment.”
