Double for Davy at Sligo

Wed 6th Aug 2008, 18:59

Davy Moran completed a just over 40/1 double in the second and third events at Sligo, initiated for his boss, Jim Bolger, on Cairdiuil in the [email protected] Claiming Race.

This first-timer, with an Irish name that translates as 'friendly,' could be described as the opposite in the betting ring as he found 9/2 from an opening show of 3/1. However the son of Bachelor Duke defied any apparent lack of confidence, leading two and a half furlongs out before going on to defeat the well-fancied outsider, Dubitante by one and a half lengths.

The juvenile was commencing a quick across the card brace for his handler, who scored with the well-backed Greannmhar in the 5.55 at Gowran. Cairdiuil, the Sligo winner, was claimed by Patrick Prendergast, the trainer, for 10,011.00 Euro.

Half an hour later Moran combined with Cecil Ross to take the Foley's Bar & Off Licence Handicap with Six Of Hearts. This consistent type, who was backed at 12/1 this morning, was returned a 13/2 shot and he came out best in a bunch finish to prevail by three parts of a length from Nanotech

Ross understandably has an affection for this gelding and he said, "He's some little star. He's so consistent and I think six furlongs is his best trip but he is effective from five up to seven. Davy said he was nearly knocked down turning in. He's entered on Sunday but probably won't run and he could go to Dundalk on Friday week." (EM)
