Double for Katie as Hidden lands gamble

Tue 27th Dec 2011, 16:28

Hidden Identity landed a big gamble (backed from 9/2 into 9/4 favourite on course) and became the fifth winning favourite of the afternoon at Limerick as she ran out an easy winner of the bumper providing her jockey Katie Walsh with a double on the card.

The Terence O'Brien trained mare finished well down the field on her debut in a bumper at Punchestown in October, but ran much better on her next start when finishing third to yesterday's impressive winner Trifolium in a maiden hurdle at Cork.

Recent Boulta point-to-point winner A Blow In (12/1) attempted to make all under Dinny Spillane but the winner, who could have been backed at 7/1 this morning, moved alongside her in the early straight and when shown the whip by Walsh inside the final furlong went clear to record an easy success.

The Liz Doyle trained Mini Vic (10/1) stayed on well to take second with A Blow In finishing a half a length back in third.

Winning trainer Terence O’Brien said afterwards: "She's a lovely mare but was almost given away at one stage but thankfully the lads held on to her.

"She pulled a hamstring on her first run at Punchestown but then ran a good race at Cork last time out. I thought she would come on from that and she did.

"She is a very good looking mare and it probably wasn’t the strongest of races today but she did it well."
