Duers proves tough customer

Sat 8th Aug 2009, 19:16

The Hacketts Bookmakers Handicap Chase turned into a prolonged duel between Duers and Strong Project with the former prevailing.

Barry Geraghty produced his mount to dispute after the last and he got the better of long-time leader Strong Project close home.

"He's been unfortunate in a few races recently. He's honest and tough, over hurdles or fences," said trainer Paul Magnier.

"He'll go for something much the same at Tramore or Killarney. He wants good ground. He'll go on soft but not winter ground."
