Trainer Pat Fahy has assembled a small but select team of runners for the upcoming Punchestown Festival.

Based near Leighlinbridge in County Carlow, Fahy is not far away from the all-conquering Closutton yard of Willie Mullins.

Fahy will only have a fraction of the dominant champion trainer's ammunition for the showpiece meeting, but remains hopeful of getting in the winner's enclosure.

The trainer's team includes recent Limerick scorer Tongie, decent handicapper Western Boy and smart mare Head Turner, who won a novice handicap at Wexford on her most recent start.

Fahey said: "Tongie is being aimed at the Martinstown Final at Punchestown. He's by Beneficial and I'd love to see him on a bit better ground.

"When he started out his career he couldn't finish his races on heavy ground but now he's winning on it. If it comes up heavy we know he can go on it but I'd really like to see him on better ground.

"Western Boy will probably go for the big handicap (Coral Hurdle) on the Saturday at Punchestown. He stood back and landed on a few hurdles last time at Fairyhouse. He's a devil for doing that.

"He'll go back on the Flat this year, and is probably a safer bet at that.

"He did well in some good, staying Flat handicaps last year, and was second at Leopardstown on Irish Champion Stakes day.

"Head Turner will probably go for the mares' novice hurdle at Punchestown.

"You can't have won more than two hurdle races or won a Graded race so that should rule out the really good ones but I'm sure Willie (Mullins) will still have about four good ones in it!

"I love her. She's won on heavy but everyone says she wants good ground."
