Mick Halford's Gabardine made every post a winning one in Tramore to give jockey Shane Foley a double after the first two races on the card.

Foley sent her on from flagfall in this rated race but the pair looked to have a strong challenge on their hands from Ineffable in the last half mile.

The 5/2 favourite and Ineffable were locked together racing into the final three furlongs but, on the approach to the home straight, it was Gabardine who pulled out more.

Ineffable couldn't go with her and weakened out of contention in finishing fourth.

Gabardine, in the first-time cheekpieces, strode on to win by four and a half lengths from Scealtana (11/2) who came through for second, a head in front of First Class Ticket

Shane Foley said: "The first-time cheekpieces helped. She ran better than her finishing position the last day, it was a bit of a messy race. She deserved that, she has some solid form.

"It wasn't ideal making the running, she was having a good look at everything in front but she got the job done thank God. I got it easy in front - we didn't go that fast but she picked up and stayed galloping to the line. She is genuine."
