Inistioge Just Does Enough

Thu 15th Jan 2009, 13:59

Inistioge named after a picturesque village in south Kilkenny, justified the confidence of those that backed her from 8/1 in the morning into 5/1, holding off the flying home, Outlaw Kid by the minimum margin.

Davy Russell was aboard the point-to-point winning daughter of Supreme Leader for trainer Garvan Donnelly. She had led or disputed throughout and had just about enough in reserve to hold on. The predominantly pink silks of winning owner, John Mangan, were carried to success plenty of times in recent years by Fatherofthebride.

Donnelly said: "This mare is as honest as they come. We hadn't planned to go hurdling with her because she is an out and out chaser. She won one point-to-point and was unlucky another day and you won't see the best of her until she goes over fences." (EM)
