Inxile makes it fourth Irish win of year

Fri 5th Aug 2011, 18:36

The Irish air obviously agrees with Inxile who landed his fourth success here this season when claiming the Abergwaun Stakes at Tipperary.

Dandy Nicholls' raider bounced out smartly in the Listed event and grabbed the lead on the rail.

Adrian Nicholls sent his mount on over a furlong from home and he soon settled matters.

The Fayruz gelding stayed on strongly to post a two-length winning margin over Move In Time as the English horses again dominated in an Irish sprint.

The winner had already scored three times this season at this level here, landing two Cork contests and a race at Naas.

He was recording his 10th career victory, six of which have been achieved on these shores.

Nunthorpe winner Sole Power could only finish fifth of the seven runners.

"The hardest part was pulling him up!" said Nicholls afterwards.

"He's done well all year but was just a bit stale last time so we gave him a break. He's been on the go since Dubai in January.

"He's a credit to the jockey as he's a pretty difficult ride. He only has two speeds and has to be led down to the start.

"He can also be a little prat in the stalls. We try to put him in last but it's not always possible.

"He's a tough character - like his trainer and jockey. We'll go for the Nunthorpe at York next and he'll probably run in the Prix de L'Abbaye.

"I'm not saying he'll win either but he's entitled to take his chance.

"Credit to Tipperary as today's race was a proper race. It was very very tough and it would nearly have been easier staying at home!

"I don't know how he doesn't run at the Curragh on Sunday. There was a clerical mess-up."
