Bonny Kate is likely to bid for compensation at the Punchestown Festival after being pulled up in the BoyleSports Irish Grand National.

Connections felt the ground had dried out a little too much for the six-year-old mare, who was sent off the 13-2 favourite but her race ended before the third-last fence.

Trainer Noel Meade reports Bonny Kate none the worse for her exertions and intends to put her back into novice company.

She had won a Grade Two mares' novice chase at Limerick on her previous start.

"She's fine and seems OK," said Meade.

"Sean (Flanagan) just thought the ground was a tad quick for her, but she travelled well and jumped well as far as she went.

"He pulled her up, a bit early perhaps, but he felt there was no point going on. She wasn't going to be in the first six.

"I would imagine she'd go to Punchestown. There are plenty of races for her still and she's a novice, so I'll say we'll probably take our chance somewhere else again."
