Lady finally makes the breakthrough

Sat 18th Sep 2010, 15:22

Headford Lady brought to an end a frustrating sequence of second placings when she ran out a good winner of the Killocrim Handicap at Listowel.

Ben Curtis led on the 5/1 shot over a furlong out and she soon drew clear to beat Rambling Dancer by four and a half lengths.

The medium of a fair gamble at Killarney back in July when short-headed and since runner-up to the previous winner Cloud Fire at Wexford and again second at Bellewstown 23 days back, Headford Lady was gaining a deserved turn in this seven furlong contest where she was breaking her maiden as a five-year-old.

Winning trainer James Halpin said: "Ben did exactly as he was told and the filly travelled well throughout. She was only beaten an inch in Killarney and deserved this win. We had no worries from halfway up the straight as we knew we were home and hosed. She'll go for something similar next."
