Lennon wins feature at Gowran Park

Fri 20th Mar 2009, 16:05

The feature race of the day, The Shamrock Handicap Chase (Grade B) caused a shock when the outsider of the field Battle Axe came home in front at odds of 25/1 under conditional jockey Sean Flanagan.

Winning trainer John Lennon said afterwards, "That was great, I always knew he was good horse. It certainly makes the day a bit better. That is my biggest win to date, I have about 16 horses in training at the minute and this lad I suppose is the flag bearer. He's a brilliant jumper and if he could improve from that it would be great. I will stick him into the Grand National and see what he gets."

Battle Axe also set a new record for being the only horse to go up twenty three pounds for finishing third the last day.
