Lagan Canal was the facile victor of the two mile maiden hurdle that closed out day three of the Harvest Festival at Listowel.

The 11/4 favourite scythed through to lead at the third last with a good jump and from there never came off the bridle as Ruby Walsh steered him home by nine lengths. Jansboy challenged him before two out, but had no more to give in the home straight and had to settle for second at 16/1 with Pierce Gallagher in the plate. Park Ranger (8/1) was third.

Tony Martin trains the six-year-old and he said: “He’s a good moving horse and I thought the ground might be a bit of a problem.

“He was going point-to-pointing two years ago and had a bit of a setback. He jumps well and he might be one for a trip to England on better ground.”
