Mount Pelier swamped Acronym and Fortune Street close home to win Wexford's bumper for owner Barry Connell.

He was off the bridle a long way out but picked up well in the final furlong for Conor McNamara to swamp the duelling rivals in the final 50 yards.

The 11/10 favourite won by a length and a half from Acronym at 7/2. Fortune Street was three parts of a length further back in third at 3/1.

Trainer Alan Fleming said: "He had two solid runs at Leopardstown and Naas. Navan might have been a run too much for him at the end of last season so we didn't mind that.

"He grinded it out there today, he is a three-mile horse so you'd be delighted to get a bumper win with him.

"I'm not sure whether he'll go for a winners' bumper but I'd say he will be in his comfort zone over three miles in novice company. He is a brilliant jumper.

"He had a run over hurdles the first day at Punchestown and ran a lovely race, so he will have no problem going back hurdling now straight away.

"He is a good, honest, genuine horse."
