O'Brien draws level in apprentice race

Fri 10th Dec 2010, 21:28

Joseph O'Brien drew level with both Gary Carroll and Ben Curtis on the 39 winner mark in the apprentice title race when partnering Regent Street to justify prohibitive odds in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

However there was some drama to the victory as the 2/5 shot edged left under pressure inside the final furlong towards Missy O'Gwaun who was making no real impression at the time.

Regent Street had a length to spare over Watch The Birdie at the line, with Missy O'Gwaun another half length back in third. The placings were confirmed after a stewards enquiry.

O'Brien was completing a double on the evening having earlier scored on Empowering

All three leading apprentices have the opportunity to win the title outright in the upcoming final race of the season.
