Brilliant JCB Triumph Hurdle winner Our Conor is set to end his first season over hurdles at Punchestown later this month.

Dessie Hughes' charge was one of the easiest winners of the Cheltenham championship in living memory having previously taken the Grade One Spring Juvenile Hurdle at Leopardstown. He is unbeaten in four starts over timber to date.

"In his work he just does enough but physically he had definitely improved from Leopardstown to Cheltenham and mentally he was in terrific shape," the trainer told At The Races.

"He's been fantastic since, he might just have improved again. He looks marvellous, we're very happy with him.

"He came back very fresh and has been very well since. He definitely didn't have a hard race at Cheltenham but was impressive. Hopefully he'll go to Punchestown. He did a little work last Wednesday and will do a little more this Wednesday. Unless there's an extreme of ground, very quick or very heavy, he'll be fine."

Hughes saddled Hardy Eustace to win two Champion Hurdles and hopes his current stable star will make up into a live contender for that race next year.

"He looks exceptional and lets hope he keeps improving over the summer and gets there. The fact he's five wouldn't worry me - he's a very mature horse," he said.

"The pair would be totally different. Hardy Eustance was just a tough horse who had to work very hard for anything he got. This fellow just oozes class and does everything so easily."
