Davy Russell is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering a fracture to his left arm in an incident in the parade ring before the Family Day Out Maiden Hurdle at Cork.

Russell's intended mount Meadowlands reared up, unshipping the former champion jockey, who was unable to take the ride.

The Turf Club's Dr Tom Purcell was on duty at the track and said: "Davy has fractured his left forearm and has gone to Cork University Hospital, but it is too early to know if surgery is required at this stage."

Russell was replaced by Brian Hayes on the Peter Fahey-trained Meadowlands, who finished unplaced.

It is the second time this year that Russell has had the misfortune of a broken arm, being hurt in a fall at Gowran in March.
