Susie Wosie was well supported at big prices before staying on best to take the Fairyhouse Summer Season Claiming Race.
Slowly away and never a factor on her racecourse debut at Gowran Park in May, the Noel Meade trained filly looked a different proposition dropped into this grade, staying on strongly under Adam Caffrey to edge ahead close home.
Held up in rear in the early stages here, Caffrey was hard at work turning into the straight but his mount found an extra gear from over a furlong out, keeping on well down the downside of the field to head market leader Roman Harry close home.
Backed from early prices of 33/1 down to 10/1, the Meade filly looks one who will improve with racing.
Newcomer Nakassama belied his inexperience to keep on well inside the final 100 yards to nab second place at the death.
Adam Caffrey, “She jumped out the gates really well. She didn’t the last day and never went a yard but today she was really good and Noel did a bit of stall work with her.
“They got at it very early taking one another on and I let them at it. As we turned in she got a bit lost with horses around her but when I pulled her out wide and she got daylight, she’s really galloped all the way to the line.
“She’ll improve and get further.”
James McAuley claimed Roman Harry (15,000), Nakassama (10,000) and Susie Wosie (5,000).
John McConnell claimed Ravelli (15,000) and Eric McNamara claimed Western Cape (15,000).
